Media and buffer solutions used in bioprocesses need to be carefully controlled, as they have direct influence on the yield. Process values are commonly controlled in the laboratory. The following factors must be considered:

Fermentation and cell cultivation
It is vital to create the right conditions in the bioreactor to allow microorganisms or cells to thrive. This ensures that yields are maximized in a stable and predictable manner. pH measurement is done in order to compensate for changes during the running process. During the fermentation process, industries must avoid any sensor exchange due to risk of contamination. Only SIP-stable high end sensors can be used. SOP (standard operation procedures) specify an exact workflow that also includes sensor handling. Sensor handling must be easy and uniform.
